Focused Shockwave Therapy EMS DolorClast®

The Only Clinic on the Central Coast with Both Focused & Radial Shockwave

Canton Beach Physiotherapy is proud to be the only clinic on the NSW Central Coast and one of the first in Australia to offer EMS DolorClast® Focused Shockwave Therapy.

This world-leading Swiss technology works alongside our existing EMS Radial Shockwave, allowing us to precisely match the right shockwave to the right depth, structure, and stage of healing resulting in faster recovery and better long-term outcomes.

What Is Focused Shockwave Therapy?

Focused Shockwave Therapy delivers high-energy acoustic waves that converge at a precise point deep within the tissue. This pinpoint focus allows us to treat structures that are too deep for traditional radial shockwave such as insertional tendons, deep muscle attachments, bone stress reactions, and calcific lesions with minimal surface discomfort.

The EMS DolorClast® Focused Shockwave device uses direct focusing technology to reduce energy loss at depth, ensuring more energy where it’s needed most.

Result: better energy delivery → stronger biological response → fewer total sessions for the right cases.

Focused vs Radial Shockwave. Why We Use Both

Radial Shockwave

Energy spreads outward which is ideal for superficial tissues such as plantar fascia, mid-portion Achilles, and muscle trigger points.

Focused Shockwave

Energy converges at depth that is ideal for deep or chronic problems like insertional tendon injuries, osteoarthritis, deep muscle tears, calcific tendons, stubborn hamstring or gluteal pain, and bone-related stress injuries.

During your assessment, your physiotherapist will determine whether to use focused, radial, or a combined protocol, based on the tissue depth, irritability, and healing phase.

Conditions Commonly Treated with Focused Shockwave

  • Chronic tendon injuries
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Insertional Achilles, hamstring, and gluteal tendinopathies
  • Rotator cuff and calcific shoulder tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy (‘jumper’s knee’)
  • Medial and lateral elbow tendinopathy (tennis and golfer’s elbow)
  • Plantar fasciitis not responding to standard care
  • Bone stress reactions and delayed/non-union healing (case-by-case)

How Focused Shockwave Helps

  • Reduces pain through neuromodulation and analgesic effects
  • Improves local blood flow and tissue oxygenation
  • Stimulates stem-cell-mediated repair and collagen remodelling
  • Accelerates tendon healing and recovery
  • Often results in fewer total sessions than standard care alone
