At Canton Beach Physio we place a big emphasis on hands on treatment for the best results for pain relief and restored mobility. Our patients often comment they get better quicker because we use manual therapy combined with exercise.

Manual therapy covers a range of specialised techniques improve tissue flexibility, increase range of motion of the joints, mobilise soft tissues, induce relaxation, improve muscle function, decrease pain, reduce soft tissue inflammation.

To create your tailored exercise programs we use an app called PhysiApp. PhysiApp lets you complete your prescribed exercise program by following crystal-clear, narrated exercise videos. PhysiApp is completely free to download from the App store and Google Play store or can be accessed via your browser. It has built-in reminders help you to stay on track towards a better you!

Here is the treatment plan


1. One Hour Initial Assessment


In the first appointment we will take a history. This is your opportunity to explain why you have come to Physiotherapy. During this part of the assessment the Physiotherapist will ask you questions about your pain and injury. You will also be asked about any previous injuries that you have had and any lifestyle factors that could be contributing to your problem.

Physical assessment

During this time the Physiotherapist will do tests on how well you move. We will feel if there are any stiff joints, tight muscles and whether your tissues are tacked down and don’t slide. You will also have strength tests done to see if your problem is caused by weak muscles. We will test to see if you are moving efficiently.


Once the history and physical assessment are done your Physiotherapist will explain what is causing your problem, what treatment and exercises are recommended. By looking at how the body is connected we can work out what the underlying cause of your pain and stiffness could be. After this you will be given your first treatment.

2. Treatment

Your treatment will be a whole body approach where we use manual therapy and exercise to address stiff muscles, free up restricted joints, restore sliding surfaces, facilitate breathing at end ranges and desensitize painful tissues. Follow up treatments take 30 minutes. We don’t overlap patients so you get the one to one care that you need.

Physiotherapy treatment is normally x1-2 a week for 6-8 weeks. As you improve the frequency of treatment will reduce. If you have permanent injury we offer maintenance treatment every 4-6 weeks to keep you moving well.

3. Self Management

At Canton Beach Physio we believe everyone should be able to perform basic, routine maintenance on your body. We teach you how to be strong and mobile in all situations. At each treatment session we will teach you specific exercises and self mobility techniques to get you moving normally again. We have found that patients that spend 30 minutes a day on strength and mobility exercises improve the quickest.

4. Strength Training

You can do your 45 minute into workout with a Physiotherapist or Personal Trainer.
